More About Chessum Roses

Chessum Plants started growing roses in Bedfordshire in the mid 1960’s.  The business was started by Paul Chessum, initially producing roses in his parent’s back garden.  Over the years Chessum’s has expanded to become one of the largest growers of roses in Europe.  Customers include many garden centres, DIY stores, Supermarkets and online retailers.

Total production in 2015 was over 2,000,000 plants – so if you see a rose for sale in the UK there is a strong chance that it started its life in a field in Bedfordshire.

One of the main specialities of Chessum Plants is standard rose production.  Paul Chessum developed a new growing technique and a new stem.  This combination means that Chessum’s standard roses are renowned throughout Europe.

Over the years Chessum’s have been contacted by Crematorium’s that are looking for a supplier of fresh new season roses, either to replace old damaged stock or for new planting schemes.  This fits perfectly with Chessum’s production.  Roses are lifted in the Autumn and can be supplied bare root from October to March.  This has given the Crematorium’s good results for the roses, as the soil is warm and damp, the temperature is cool so the roots establish well giving them the best possible start.  If roses are required as a top up later in the season Chessum’s also containerise over 1,000,000 roses and will have a supply of many lines available throughout the spring/summer.

So if you are looking for good quality UK grown roses – give Chessum’s a call and buy directly from the grower!
